I have a job interview in about 2 weeks for a teaching position. I didn't think I would a get a call back so soon because most schools around this time are in the process of reviewing their budget. This week I am going to put together a portfolio and ask my professor for a letter of recommendation. I am not going to stress I am going to be positive I am just happy in the fact that this year my resume is much stronger.

So yesterday I finally bought the 15 inch macbook pro as a present for myself for getting into graduate school. I opted for the 2GB one even though I could have easily bought the 4GB one. I. It is going to be used mainly for paperwork and pictures. I love having a new toy to play with :)

So last Wednesday I found out I was accepted into the Graduate Early Childhood Education program at Brooklyn College. My interview was last Tuesday and I was nervous I brought my portfolio and class made books ( which no one bothered to look at ) and my interviewer was very cryptic I was told that she saw no reason why I shouldn't get into the program and that I should wait for admissions to send me stuff if accepted. But I didn't think I would find out a day after and completely by accident too. I was at work and I used the computer in the art room and I decided to look at status of my application form and the rest was history.
I already made up my schedule I go back January 27 and I cannot wait to get into school mode!!

So subbing went really well today I think so far this was my favorite experience. During my prep I was thinking about the future and eventually when I go back for another master's degree I think I am going to do science because I always had a passion for it. The plan originally was do literacy because it goes well with Early Ed but I have no interest. Plus with science I cant expand grade levels!!!

On another random note I got my first big pay check ( even after taxes)! This definitely helps the holiday shopping that I will be doing soon. I am still waiting on the DOE one I have no idea how that is going to work all I know is the salary went up!

I love sub central this automated system has been calling me everyday!! Today I finally got a call for a substitute job in the city at one of the best public schools!!. I will be a science cluster teacher to grades 3-5. I am happy to finally branch out to another borough and to finally have voice instructions for what I am going to be doing. Apparently tomorrow I am not doing all that much and I am kind off upset about that I really wanted to challenge myself and to teach a subject and grade level that's outside of my certification. Anyway I will be there 8-3pm I have a feeling I will be done earlier in the day but like always wont be able to leave until its time to clock out. Now I am really looking forward to this big pay check from the DOE and it helps so much that the substitute salary went up a little... It's going to make holiday shopping easier this year along with other things.

I went to Lord & Taylor for fall/winter clothes and I came away happy. I got a new winter jacket, dark gray cord pants and I am down to a 2 again so all my hard work has been paying off!
I applied for the master's program at Brooklyn College and now I have a headache. The application was $125 that's a little much but whatever. I have all my documentation ready so tomorrow after Early Bird I will drop it in. The only thing I am worried about is the fact that my professor did not give me the letter of recommendation in a sealed envelope she also has to sign one of the documents and I cannot get a hold of her until next week. Hopefully she will respond to an email I left her...

Anyway I got 10 % off from barnes and noble and I have a teachers discount card which saves me 20% so tomorrow I am going to be picking up Dead Until Dark the first book based on true blood!!

I went to kings plaza today and actually came away with a purchase. This is a first time that kings plaza didn't disappoint. I needed new sneakers and proper gym clothes. I have been working out in random concert shirts and I have a drawer full so I really don't mind and my sweat pants aren't really suited for exercise they are too thick in material. So I went to modell's thinking I wont find anything but they actually had decent stuff for a change. I got a pair of new balance sneakers , a sports bra, 2 pairs of work out pants. I spent $100 today on things I will actually use.

On another random note I wrote how I saw changes in my hair but it's one thing when I notice something its quite another when someone else points it out and asks what I am doing. Tomorrow I am meeting up with my friend Zulie after my meeting at work. We are going to whole foods and I am going to introduce her to the wonderful world of organic/natural shampoo's. I am going to try to go the gym after we hang out even if its for 2 hours, but I have a feeling its not gonna end that way.

Food!

I made this today all from scratch and no weight watchers products included.... Crepes with chicken in mushroom sauce. I used bay leaf in the sauce it was an experiment and not only did gave it a nice smell but it gave my sauce something extra, I think I may use it more often.

Here are a few pictures of my meal
And on a side this wasn't all I made I have left overs to last me for a while. I am happy because now I don't have to eat cereal for breakfast and have a crepe or as we Russians call them bliny.

Oh and that book on my table is Grimm's Complete Fairy Tales. It makes me relieve my childhood again and also realize how much Disney sucks ass. After reading both Grimm brothers and Hans Christian Andersen and also doing a unit on comparison of Disney and Anderson all because my 2nd graders at the time thought that Disney was the original author of the little mermaid. Well I had enough... I still cant believe how he butchered the original versions of the stories of authors.

I spent 5 hrs at the gym today I am not going to go into what type of workout I did because just thinking about it makes me feel even more tired. The one thing I will mention is when I was on the elliptical machine regretting that I had to put up with crappy r&b/pop/ techno music. I really missed my ipod I thought about what I could be listening to like the new iced earth album.. So I was observing my surroundings and I saw some pretty amusing things.. It really made me laugh when I saw some women bring over sized dunkin donuts coffee coolatas and donuts. They were in their gym clothes having snack on the machines. I saw them in the gym earlier we came in at the same time they stayed for 30 minutes and then left. The 5 hrs that I spent at the gym they didn't do anything after their snack accept treadmill for 10 minutes. I am thinking of going back tomorrow at some point during the day but I don't know if I want to do 5 hrs this time I would like to do more.

I was in a yogurt mood today so I took a walk down to key food , which was depressing and a waste of my time. They didn't have a good selection it was mainly weight watchers crappy stuff yuck! and some other random brands.. I would have bought none weight watchers yogurts but they didn't have a good variety and out of the stuff that was there I couldn't have because I am allergic. Than I became in the mood to bake/cook something so I am checking the aisles for the ingredients on my recipes and all I keep seeing are these craptastic weight watchers stuff. I was actually in a mood to make hachipuri they are these breaded squares with cheese inside. I really became discouraged when in the cheese section I saw weight watchers brand cheese.. Thats not chese feta, Gouda, brie, are cheeses and thats solid crap. At this point I thought about taking trip to the city and going to whole foods where they don't sell weight watchers products but no it was hot.....

So I am disappointed that I didn't get my yogurt but I figure the kefir ( Russian style yogurt like drink) that I have in my house is much better than some berry flavored mixture. And I am really sad that I didn't get to make hachipuri today ... This weekend is going to be hectic but Monday for sure.... Maybe I'll even go to whole foods I was watching emeril green today and that made me want to go there even more.

I came back from Boston yesterday I would like to go back there for several reasons. Turns out they have a Smith and Wollensky steakhouse!! Even though they have one in the city the one in Boston in much nicer it looks like a castle. This restaurant is very pricey but very much worth it, best fillet mignon ever.I also wanted to go to the Sam Adams Brewery because apparently you can do a tour and have beer tastings :) I was very disappointed to learn there was no tours on Sunday. I didnt get to go the cheers bar even though it was on the way when we did the historic walking tour which was a waste of two hrs... Next time I go back I want to check out a red sox game for the hell of it. What annoyed me the most was being asked if I liked the yankees everywhere I went....

I just found my favorite pink bohemian/gypsy like skirt I had this thing for 2 yrs. At some point in 2007 I was taking art class ( for my major) and I was completely unaware that we were working with tempera paint that day. From what I knew about it it washable however, I ended getting black tempera on the side of my skirt. Water didn't help it made it worse even washing it didn't work. My mother convinced me to throw it out but I couldn't part with it , tempera paint and all

My last hope is taking it to the dry cleaners and see what could be done.
Yesterday was my first day of work as a substitute teacher. I was supposed to teach a first grade inclusion classroom however, when I got to the school the payroll secretary switched me to fourth grade. I asked her if there were other openings and she assigned me to as second grade inclusion classroom. I loved the school its one of the best schools in Brooklyn and I think in it's district. I was also working in Park Slope but further than where my current job is.

I have a strong feeling that when September rolls around I will start out as a substitute teacher. I really don't mind that because subbing is actually partly experience for resume and mostly networking. I already have all my districts picked out and I am not limiting myself to just Brooklyn... This is all a back up plan of course, I handed in my resume to many schools and I still have a few more to go. Maybe I am just being paranoid when one of the schools says they are not hiring due to budget cuts..... I should be more optimistic

Saw the Hulk yesterday in the city!!! It was much better than the first because the first movie made no fucking sense. I also love the fact that during the movie they hinted to new avengers movie ( Robers Downey JR makes an appearance). Now I can understand why Marvel would release Iron Man and then the Hulk b/c it's all tied together ( The Avengers)!!!! Finally Liv Tyler was a much better choice she was much more empathetic Jennifer Conolly

I am done with my morning/after school work !!! Next week I have Summer Camp I will be an assistant counselor to a group of 1sr and 2nd graders. But still no news about fulltime work and I try not to get discouraged when I hear all the news about school budget cuts. But I do have a back up plan so I am not worried. After work I went to random schools to hand out resumes I got a little bumped when I found out that one school were I had done previous field work already filled their vacancy. I needed cheering up so after visiting the DOE for my back up plan and to give my student teaching ID finally I paid a visited to Barnes and Noble. I got a teacher appreciation card!!!!!! It saves me 20% on purchases , and I bought a children's chapter book... Yeah I am basically stocking up on books for my future classroom. I leveled it on the train too :)

I must say though I like the Barnes and Noble on Court Street better than the one over at Park Slope. The court street one is much more organized, bigger, and has a better variety.

Macbeth

So yesterday I came to work a little early which was good for me because this gave me time to buy Humus to go with my Matzo. It actually came together pretty well normally I would have gotten this flat bread with with garlic and chives ( they have different seasonings. Bu most importantly for snack I got my vanilla truffle organic yogurt!! I just cant stress how much I love working in Parkslope ever since I started working there I started eating better ( not that I was eating unhealthy before) but there is something about natural/organic foods that make me feel better knowing there aren't any toxins in it.

So anyway as I was eating my delicious meal I was browsing through the art section of the New York Times and I came across Macbeth and Patrick Stewart. I immediately took to the computer and took to the website from the advertisement. Turns out its playing through May and there were tickets still available and Patrick Stewart is in it. I remember a while back it was playing in BAM but that got sold out. I called Chris and he got taken by surprise. By the time my work started Kim and Jim were in but we were still waiting on Rush. I really wanted to know ASAP because I wanted to get the tickets that night because who knows when they would get sold out.

So while I was at a break at work I get a text from Chris that says he got the tickets for this Saturday!! I am really excited Macbeth is one of my favorites and I think it is supposed to a modern version where it takes place in Moscow and there is a plot to kill Stalin but I am not too
sure. But either way I don't care !!!!!!!!!!

Hiking!

I really feel an urge to go hiking! I am trying to research places in NJ, Upstate, and Long Island, and maybe even Connecticut if it's not too far of a drive. Chris likes the idea a lot but as always I am the one who is left to research the brilliant idea. Well next week my friend Dina comes back from Israel she is supposed link me to this pretty little cabin in Upstate where she went with Mike. I think you can hike around that area and according to what she says the prices are decent!!!! Considering the weather is getting warm I really want to do this even if its overnight. It would have been great if we could get people together and go camping but I don't think anyone except me and maybe Chris if I really talk him into it will like the idea. I love the outdoors and being one with nature.. Plus this would give me a chance to get away from the people and the things that have been stressing me out and just really relax let go . When I am outside running or just walking/jogging that's when I feel most relaxed and at ease.
